Environment´s information

It is located 20 km from Segovia. Between Adrada de Pirón and Torreiglesias and with a high of 1.047 m.
In 1.103 Sancho Sarracinez and his mother (Logroño) donated to the monastery of San Millán de la Cogolla, its region of Losana in Rivo Pirone: So, this region was rebuilt by the people from Rioja. Anyway, its name until the XVIII century has been just Losana. Nowadays, has been attached to the town hall of Torreiglesias, like Local Organization.
Inside its oversized cottage we can find different styles, with facades that have with old designs, next to other stone houses.
We advise you to visit the old flax puddles, or its old mill next to the river, its fountain of piston next to an old forge, the bull pen…

Church: Our lady of the Assumption.

Festivities: San Antonio of Pádue on the 13th of June
Our Lady of the Assumption (15th of August)
Saint’s Night: the young boys, in incessant ringing, they play the bells of the church. This habit is not longer.

Places: inside the wide term of Losana de Pirón, we can run by foot or by bicycle, through the paths, are located the Valleys of the Rivers Pirón and Viejo. In the first one, we Discovery the Cave Vaquera or the Cave of Fuente Dura, the Hermitage of Santiaguito, the medieval bridge of the XVI Century and the fountain of Covatillas and next to them is the cottage of Covatillas, belong already to the term of Torreiglesisas, as well as the Mill with the same name.

EL RIVER PIRÓN: it was born in the Fountain of Mojón where the water sprouts by the Port of Malangosto, a step from the mountain chain where the Archpriest of Hita had a discussion with Chata. In the Book of Good Love reflected this fact that nowadays is remembered with a pilgrimage in the first Sunday of August.
In an ideal place to walk going across the small valleys or the mountain chain among the oak trees, to meet the ruins of the Cistercian Monastery of Saint Mary of the Mountain Chain or the ranch Alfaro, in the past it was famous by the shearing of the migrating cattle.

The villages of the area whose origins bacj to the first moments to the repopulation are small but picturesque and of big interest from the artistic point of view, with many Romanesque Churches, some of them belong to the School of Pirón. The first time that this river was quoted was in 1.116 as “Pirum” and in 1.123 in a document of the Cathedral of Segovia as “Pironne” although this name seems previous to the repopulation.

The valleys of Pirón and River Viejo Guild two beautiful cannons in the Soudeast mountain chain of Segovia with its calcareous relief, cannons and precipices. In its flora stand out: the savins, junipers and Holm oaks, as well as the willows, ashes and black poplars. The birds that stand out are: the vulture, the falcons, bee-eater and the Egyptian vulture. As well as its worth seeing the Natural Park North Mountain chain Guadarrama towards the East of the village.

The bridges of Santo Domingo (of one keyhole) and Covatillas (two keyholes) are worth seeing.

It flows into Cega and it raises barbel, crayfish.
It is located in the municipality term of Losana de Pirón is a place of great beauty surrounded by deposits of different periods. Levels since 3700 b.C appeared, at the end of the Iron Ages, around the II Century b.C together with burial of other rear moments (beginning of Bronze Age). The pottery that has been recovered there have been abundant and belonged to the bell-shaped Glass.

Possibly during the Neolithic these caves were used as bedrooms and also as Necropolis.

Already in the old bronze appeared the bell-shaped of Ciempozuelo kind. A burial appeared, removed, but stamped by new layer of sediments. In connection with the remains, in fetal distress and surrounded by stones, the three typical vases of type Ciempozuelos were found, vase, pot and bowl, that build the set.

Respecting the rest of sites, the human occupation has been constant up to our days, it is worth standing out the Iron Age, where two villages located in the junction of the rivers Pirón and Viejo stand out.

The first one, the hill of Sota is occupied, at the beginning from the VII b.C up to the middle of the II century a.C. The second one, el Castrejón is located after that, probably around the IV century b.J, and it is empty in a similar moment than the Hill Sota.
Rock Hermitage, located next to the meadow and taking advantage of a hole of the rock.
It is just built by a part that run in parallel to the rock in longitudinal direction and other small and whitewash that is arranged perpendicularly. Only by three small windows that the light pierces inside. On the 25th of July, Santiago’s day, patron saint of Spain, the neighbours of the close villages, and mainly of Torreiglesias, to celebrate to its saint in a pilgrimage where resides the religious worship, the people go to dance jotas with the flute.
                                           ROMANESQUE ROUTE
The route of the Romanesque of Pirón includes more than thirty churches and hermitages, pictures, sculpture and baptismal sink. The Romanesque church of Sotosalbos, Pelayos, Caballar, Tenzuela are worth seeing. Also the Romanesque church of Torrecaballeros is interesting, close to Segovia, city that you must go for being Humanity Patrimony with its famous Romanesque aqueduct, castle, and an endless of Romanesque churches. And a little bit more to the South the Granja de San Ildefonso with its Palace and Gardens is waiting for us.

In Turégano we recommend seeing the Forest Museum of the Villa, the castle it its interior church, the main square and other religious buildings such as the main church with Romanesque pictures. In Cantimpalos there are different natural areas and landscapes outskirts of the locality, as well as you should taste its pork products, specially is known chorizo from Cantimaplos, brand with Geographic Instruction Protected since 2008. On the Northeast Pedraza stands out because it is Historical Artistic Set.
